February Midterm Coding Camp

This one day coding camp is suitable for girls and boys in 2nd to 6th class, kids from all schools welcome. During our camp we will:

Create a small project in Scratch, a child-friendly coding language designed for kids
Do some fun coding unplugged STEM activities
Learn about the BBC Micro:bit and code some small projects on one ourselves

We will have projects for both Beginners and Improvers, so whether your child is a novice or a ninja, there will be lots for them to learn and code at this camp. There will be lots of time to experiment in all three activities, mix with others at the camp and make new friends. There are limited places on this camp to allow for lots of one-to-one attention. We ask that you send a laptop with your child if possible, so they can code along and maybe even continue when they get home. (We have a limited number of laptops available, so please get in touch BEFORE BOOKING if you don’t have one that you can send with your child.) 9:45 AM - 10:00 PM St. Francis NS, Rock Road, Blackrock, Co Louth

Arrival & Registration

Registration for the camp will take place from 9:45am to 10am at the school door. All children must be signed in and out of this camp.

10:00 AM - 10:30 AM

Welcome & Introduction

We will spend some time getting laptops setup, lunches packed away safely and then will have some fun welcome activities for the kids to settle in, and get to know eachother.

10:30 AM - 11:30 AM

Coding Unplugged Activity

We have some fun non-screen coding activities lined up for the kids, some of them are individual activities and some are team activities, all are fun!!!

11:30 AM - 12:30 PM

Scratch Coding

In this lesson we will learn how to make an e-card for Valentines, Birthday or any other special occasion.

12:30 PM - 1:15 PM

Lunch Break

We will eat lunch at the designated lunch tables, well away from any laptops, and we aim to get out for fresh air and a bit of a run around at lunchtime. Fingers crossed, the weather will allow for this. If forecast is cold, please make sure to send a coat with your child.

1:15 PM - 2:20 PM

Microbit Coding

I~ts time to get hands-on with microbits, this will be a taster session where the kids will see what a microbit is, and get to code a few small projects on it.

2:20 PM - 2:30 PM

Packup

We will get everyone packed up with all their bits and bobs. If your child takes a laptop with them, we will help them pack it away safely.

2:30 PM - 2:30 PM

Collection Time 2:30pm

All kids will need to be signed out of the camp by someone they know and who has been authorised to collect them. If you child is going to walk home, please just let us know beforehand or when dropping them off. Thank You!
