The Code Lab has been named Cathaoirleach’s Business of the Month for Louth for January 2026, and I couldn’t be prouder to see the business recognised in this way by Louth County Council.
This recognition from Cathaoirleach Sean Kelly came about through a moment I think about often. I’d been invited to showcase The Code Lab at a business event hosted by Dundalk Credit Union, attended by a Government Minister and a range of local stakeholders. Rather than waiting to be approached, I made a point of introducing myself to the Cathaoirleach directly. I got him hands-on with one of our VEX robots, and what followed was a genuinely great conversation about the business, what we do, and why accessible STEM education matters for children right across the county.
That single conversation led to this recognition. It’s a reminder to me of something I try to live by in business and in networking generally: opportunities rarely come looking for you. You have to be willing to walk up, introduce yourself, and start the conversation.
Being named Business of the Month has opened further doors since. It gave me the confidence to apply for, and go on to win, the Louth Local Enterprise Digitalisation Award. It also led to further opportunities to represent Louth as a guest speaker, telling the story of The Code Lab and the young learners it supports.
Thank you to Louth County Council and the Cathaoirleach for this recognition, and to everyone in the Louth business community who continues to support The Code Lab’s growth. It’s a privilege to represent Louth in this way, and I’m looking forward to building on this momentum in the months ahead.
